Ahhhh, so we’re back in our hotel room. It’s after 2:00 am at the moment and we’re resting our tired feet and full stomachs.
Today, we had the opportunity to visit Chatéau de Versailles, which was quite a 5+ hour visit. If you get a chance to go, my suggestion to you would be to visit the gardens first; they were pretty fantastic. I should say that our experience of the gardens was… how should I put it… ‘enhanced’… by our selected mode of transport (rented golf cart haha) and freshly squeezed OJ. I’m not sure how many gardeners King Louis had, but I’m estimating their numbers must’ve rivaled a small army. Upon entering the chatèau itself, I was a little surprised at the underwhelming decor, which featured many tiny rooms with what I thought to be design quite unfit for a king. Bu,t I’m certainly not royalty, so….
We battled the mobs to get back to the city and found ourselves taking a short nap to revive ourselves for what would be a satisfying dinner of chicken caesar salad and penne pasta. Dessert, however, was the main course. My question to you, have you ever been to a Haagen Dasz restaurant? We have! (bucket list, check) While there, we had Belgian chocolate fondue with 18 assorted scoops of heaven and fruit (yum!). Bring your wallet though, the 39€ price tag would send anyone’s pocket alight.
Tummies full, we headed straight to the Eiffel tower. Now, we visited the tower last year, but not at night. There is a difference, believe me. We arrived at about the stroke of midnight and the tower burst into a flurry of white sparkling lights, amid its almost golden lit face. We wanted to sit on the grass and enjoy the view, along side increasingly intoxicated individuals (bottles of wine… everywhere), but mother nature had something else planned (drizzles), so we headed back.
Tomorrow is another day and another bowl of ice cream!
