I don’t have much time because I’m positive that the Internet here on our hotel TV is going to vanish very shortly, sooooo…
This morning brought our short excurision to Murano, *the* place to find fine Italian glass… but not much else. The downtown core on this lonely island features a variety of shops selling much of the same between themselves. Definitely check this place out if you ever visit Venice, but make it a morning thing.
Later, we checked out Rialto, the economic center of Venice, per se. We didn’t find much worth buying, again, a lot of the same between shops. There are some nice high end shops, if you can put up with being eyed like a thief (maybe it was my shorts?).
Our afternoon nap took a turn for the lengthy and we ended up missing our chance for an early evening Gondola ride (we’ll do this before we head back to Canada). However, we got to enjoy a nice little hole in the wall for dinner. Trattoria tre Speidi (?) will provide you a decent meal… after a long wait, of course. And if you’re looking for free food, this is the place to go. Our Italian hosts loved our company so much, they didn’t want us to leave! Free cookies and free after meal shots disguised as ‘lemon gelato smoothies’ were on the house! We’re pretty sure, since we were the only ones in the place, that they wanted us to stick around, you know, to coax the folks.
Quanto Basta ended our evening with superb Kit Kat, Pistachio, and Kinder Cereali gelato. Mmmmm.
We’re about to head to bed. ‘But it’s only midnight!’ you say? Say hello to our 5:50 am bus to the airport as we head to the romance capital of the world, Paris!
Ciao!
